Abstract
This paper proposes a two stage based structural system identification technique utilizing absolute accelerations. At the first stage, the modal vectors of a structure and the bandpass filtered input ground accelerations are estimated by means of the proper orthogonal decomposition technique. At the second stage, the ARX model-based identification is conducted using the filtered absolute acceleration responses and input ground accelerations for the purpose of obtaining more precise information of the modal characteristics and reestimating the input ground acceleration. The validity of the proposed methodology is demonstrated by conducting computer simulations and scale-model experiments.
