Abstract

In grinding there exist accumulation phenomena, because a cutting process of an abrasive grain is transitional and then various kinds of stock remain unremoved due to the inequality between interference depth of wheel and radius reduction of workpiece by grinding action. The accumulation phenomena result in the existence of three distinct grinding states, a transient, a steady and a spark-out grinding states. In this report, the beginning condition for size generation is first made clear by analyzing grinding time up to the beginning point of size generation, real interference depth of wheel and grinding force in the beginning point of size generation. Effects of grinding conditions, such as interference depth of wheel, speed ratio, grinding system condition, wheel grade and dressing condition, upon the size generation process are then discussed by analyzing stock removal in the three grinding states and final stock remained unremoved.
