Abstract

In a closed-loop control system, feedback is used to minimise the difference between the demanded and actual output. In a motion-control system, the controlled variable is either the velocity or the position. The overall performance of a motion-control system will depend, to a large extent, on the type and quality of the transducer which is used to generate the feedback signal. This chapter considers operation of a range of absolute and incremental velocity and position transducers, hence allowing the correct selection to be made.
