Abstract
Climate change and the depletion of fossil fuels have boosted public awareness of sustainable materials. Continuous depletion of fossil fuels may disrupt the ecosystem and hurt human health. Natural-based materials have become more popular in recent years, and these are currently used in a variety of fields to lessen the environmental effect. Natural-based materials are lightweight and have a good amount of strength. Natural materials coupled with a matrix are known as composites, and they offer superior strength and durability over petroleum-based products. Natural composite is made from natural resources such as wood, agricultural waste, and plant fibers. Hemp fiber is a plant-based fiber with good strength and is compatible with all matrices types. From the viewpoint of sustainability, the hemp plant is the best carbon sequester compared to any other plant in the world. In this regard, this chapter presents a short review of hemp pretreatment and performance.
