Abstract
Interval analysis (or interval arithmetic), which studies computations done with imprecise data, is an algebra of quantities whose exact values are only known to lie within given intervals. Interval analysis allows one to control the inaccuracies resulting from calculations affected by rounding errors or uncertain data. If a calculation is done using intervals rather than numbers, its result is an interval which is expected to include the exact value.
