Abstract
A representation of three-dimensional object surfaces by regions homogeneous in intrinsic surface properties is presented. This representation has applications in both recognition and display of objects, and is not restricted to a particular type of approximating surface.Surface patches are fitted to windows of continuous range data with tension splines as basis functions. Principal curvatures are computed from these local surface approximations, and maximal regions formed by coalescing patches with similar curvature properties.KeywordsPrincipal CurvatureRange DataEdge PointRange ImageInternal EdgeThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
