Abstract

Fourier transform is widely used for the characterization of noise signal. However, the method can not be applied to a non-stationary signal, because frequencies of it evolve in time. To characterize an inboard noise and inboard vibration, which are a non-stationary type, of a ship, a modified WT is proposed in this study. A measured signal is used for the analyzing wavelet, AW, of the calculation, while the AW of conventional WT is represented mathematically. An instantaneous correlation factor, ICF, which coincides the concept of WT, is introduced first. From the analysis, both the correlation between vibration signal from engine room and inside noise of mess hall, and the noise source in engine room, are recognized clearly.
