Abstract

The engineering formation system of the United Kingdom in which the chartered engineer is ranked as the highest qualification has totally reformed since 1980's. As its results, the whole stage of Higher Education is incorporated into it and the curriculum of each department of engineering faculties must be accredited by an engineering institution of the corresponding field which has to be one of the members of the Engineering Council. The cooperation of universities with industries is effectively compulsory in the engineering education and its contents are highly oriented to the actual engineering practice. The achievement and the state of art of British innovation in the engineering formation system are very informative and useful for the reconstruction of the engineering education in Japanese universities..
