Abstract

Skin preaging is a concern raised by young consumers. A new skincare line including facial essence, eye cream, and face cream, which combines active ingredients of retinol, dipeptide and fullerene, was developed to target skin concerns of wrinkles and sagging. The objective of this study was to assess the tolerance and efficacy of the products and develop tolerance-building guidance for Asian consumers. A clinical study in 120 Chinese females aged 43-64 with signs of facial wrinkles and sagging was randomized into 3 subgroups. G1 used essence once daily, G2 used regimen under tolerance building guidance, and G3 used placebo cream. All subjects were provided with auxiliary moisturizers and sunscreens. Noninvasive instruments, imaging, clinical grading, and self-evaluation were performed at 0, 4, 8, 14, and 20 weeks. Essence and regimen both provided statistically significant improvement on wrinkles as early as 4 weeks, and on all efficacy endpoints, including hydration, smoothness, radiance, elasticity, 7 types of wrinkles, 3 types of sagging throughout the study. AVEA-HE showed the essence and regimen could significantly lift the jawline contour by 2.53 mm and 2.88 mm after 8 weeks, respectively. Retinol-related irritation including redness and dryness occurred during the first month. After following the usage instructions, 94% subjects were tolerant to the irritation. The clinical results showed that the new essence and regimen are efficacious for antiwrinkle and contour lifting. Combined with the tolerance building guidance, consumers would be able to minimize irritation, achieve better results and user experience.
