Abstract

The validity range of the frequency/mass-relation based on the compound resonator model has been verified with a very sensitive method of mass determination (Atomic Absorption Spectrometry-AAS) up to mass loads m f m q > 60% . The present load range limiting factors are the significant increase of the crystal damping and the occurence of small frequency jumps in the frequency/mass-curve. The behaviour of the crystal damping has been measured during the deposition process and a strong correlation between the frequency jumps and the damping curve has been discovered. Consequences for the preparation of the crystal electrodes in order to avoid frequency jumps even at high mass loads are introduced.
