Abstract

Die casting is a very effective manufacturing method for plastic and aluminum alloy products. However die casts are complicated not only in structural geometry, but also in material, machining and hydrodynamics. This research has aimed at CAD/CAE/CAM techniques for a die cast of bracket. Some results are summarized as: (1) A die cast is generally described by the constructive solid geometry and modeled almost by the Boolean operating. (2) The shape of a casting is defined by subtracting the concave and convex moulds from a stock solid. (3) The surfaces of a die cast are usually machined by parallel, radial, project, flow line, contour, pocket, plunge machining methods. (4) NC simulation is very helpful for setting optimal cutting methods and conditions. (5) FEM of fluid flow and coagulation can be used in design of die casts for reducing their developing time and costs. (6) CAD/CAE/CAM is especially valuable for die casts. (7) Know-how is very important for design and manufacturing of a die cast.
