Abstract
The coexisting presence of borderline features, substance abuse, suicidality, and episode polarity and exposure to childhood trauma in children and adolescents with bipolar disorder (BD) has been associated with greater illness burden and greater impairment in social and affective life. MRI techniques emphasized that these characteristics are associated with alterations in the cortical and subcortical structures of the brain. However, the temporal dynamics of these neurobiological dysfunctions still are not possible to evaluate with MRI techniques. Event-related potentials (ERPs) are low-cost, noninvasive, and high-temporal resolution techniques that can integrate neuroimaging findings to unveil the neurobiological substrates of the different facets of pediatric BD (PBD). Therefore, the aim of this presentation is to provide the neurophysiological characteristics related to illness course predictors in youths with PBD.
