Abstract

Alternative refrigerant HFC-134a is now used as a refrigerant gas for the automotive air conditioning system. Friction properties in ammonia and carbon dioxide gases, which are regarded as coming alternative refrigerants, are examined to compare with that of HFC-134a. The experimental results of pin-on-disk type friction tests in them show that the seizures between the pin and the disk occur frequently in starved lubricating conditions and that the surface treatment such as Sn plating improves the tribological properties.
