Abstract

A major clinical issue is wound healing, which requires efficient and proper wound care and management. The development of innovative therapeutic modalities and technologies for acute and chronic wound management has gained popularity in the field of wound care. Different components such as growth factors, cytokines, extracellular matrix, soluble mediators, and multiple cell types help in the process of wound healing. While the wound healing process is constant, it is arbitrarily divided into four steps of hemostasis—coagulation, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling with scar tissue formation. Wound management and care with an appropriate approach will significantly impact the clinical result. This chapter covers wound categorization, the anatomy of the healing process, and wound treatment techniques.
