Abstract
The main focus of this chapter is on the valve sealing. The reason why a separate chapter is dedicated to valve sealing is that proper valve sealing prevents fugitive emission, increases the design life of the valves, and improves the valves safety and reliability. Thus, valve seals are critical parts of the valves. Different seals such as stem sealing, body/bonnet and body pieces sealing, and internal seat and closure member sealing including dynamic and static seals are discussed in detail in this chapter. Different shapes and types of seals such as gaskets, O-rings, lip seals, V-packs, compression packing, bellows, etc., are explained in this chapter. At the end, materials of seals such as graphite, Teflon, PEEK, and elastomeric seals are addressed.
