Abstract

This chapter examines another successful new migrant business called Yellow Earth, which started as a small sheepskin tanning business but has gradually developed into the largest manufacturer and supplier of Australian sheepskin products. Yellow Earth has successfully made Australian sheepskin boots a new fashion in China, and it was chosen as one of the few Australian companies represented in the Australian pavilion at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. It is an almost textbook case of how migration helped open up new markets and foster economic growth. This is more significant than other cases because sheepskins were becoming useless in rich countries such as Australia and the owner's ability to find a market for such a product shows how good his professional background was.
