Abstract

This chapter introduces a review of the design, fabrication, and synthesis of metal oxide nanofibers. Specifically, nonelectrospun nanofibers will be presented. The nonelectrospinning techniques of producing nanofibers include centrifugal spinning, template synthesis, phase separation, drawing, freeze-drying synthesis, solution blowing, self-assembly, interfacial polymerization, plasma-induced technique, laser spinning, and splitting techniques. Solution blowing and centrifugal spinning can be viewed as the most advantageous techniques. Metal oxide nanofibers are generally synthesized from different metals and metal oxides, such as Fe, Cu, Ti, Ba, Si, Sn, Ni, Mo, Sb, CeO2, CuO, TiO2, MnO2, Fe2O3, SnO2, and NiCo2O4. The synthesis of nanofibers from these metals, their oxides, and their mixtures using different methods rather than by an electrospinning technique is introduced and explained in detail.
