Abstract

This chapter focuses on the basics of plastic properties, including film properties. It is in several major parts. First the physical properties of plastics such as density, dimensional stability when exposed to heat and humidity, friction, color, gloss, haze, and yellowing are covered. The mechanical testing of plastics is covered next. This includes tensile, shear and flexural properties, folding, puncture, impact, and tear. Thermal properties such as melt index and glass transition temperature are then discussed.
