Abstract

This chapter compares two op-amps, each of which offers premium performance in some of its characteristics at the expense of more modest performance in others. It is a commonplace that in an ideal op-amp, bandwidth, open loop gain, differential and common mode input impedance, CMRR and PSRR would all be infinite while input offset voltage, input bias current and output impedance would all be zero—and surely there are one or two other desirables that have been overlooked by the chapter. In practice, for any given application, one must pick an op-amp that excels in those particular parameters which are essential, while accepting that the others will be less so.
