Abstract

Solubility of a drug influences the behavior of compounds in biomedical applications. Poor solubility of drugs and hydrophobicity along with other bioactive compounds limit their possible applications in formulation development and drug delivery. Approximately 40% of newly developed drugs are rejected by the pharmaceutical industry and never reach patients due to low water solubility. With the growing impact and need for next-generation systems, new drug delivery technologies that enhance the solubility and bioavailability of drugs is important. This chapter illustrates the various aspects of dendrimer technology for drug solubilization and transportation of insoluble bioactive molecules via various routes with improved solubility, dissolution and protection from the adverse environment.
