Abstract

The evolution of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has seen steady improvements with respect to safety since its inception with balloon angioplasty. However, despite significant improvements in technology and technique, management of complications remain fundamental to the interventional cardiologist’s repertoire. We aim to cover the most common complications of PCI, including abrupt closure, coronary dissection, device embolization, coronary perforation, and aortic-ostial dissection. As operators approach increasingly complex and difficult lesions, well-defined approaches to emergencies and acute management of complications are an integral part of every educational curriculum for novice and expert interventionalists.
