Abstract

Introduction: The average number of dermatologists worldwide is 1 in 60,000. However the density is unequally distributed, most dermatologists being in urban areas. However in Tanzania and Madagascar, the number falls to one in 2 and 3 million, respectively. How is it possible to maintain dermatologic expertise when the number of dermatologists is so low and that so little data exist on African skin? Proposed solution: 80% of skin problems in children are limited to 5 dermatoses. These are atopic dermatitis, scabies, tinea, impetigo and insect bites. Integrate AI to triage those disease and allow local dermatologist to focus on more challenging cases through a store-and-forward teledermatology platform
