Abstract

We present a case report of a 73-year-old male dog owner who presented with multiple black and white hairs protruding from the webspace between the 4th and 5th toe. By evaluating the medullary index of the hairs, they were determined to be of canine origin. Embedded hairs, Barber’s disease, interdigital disease, or “hair splinters” can be seen in barbers, hairdressers, dog groomers, or even pet owners. It is characterized by exogenous, nonpatient hairs that become embedded in the skin, most often in the interdigital spaces.
