Abstract
New hole processing technology uses a new shape punch which has a protrusion at the top of piercing punch. It is necessary to know an optimal punch shape and diameter for holing a desirable size hole. A holing process with the punch is simulated by Finite Element Method (FEM), and the simulated results are compared with experimental ones. Then, the hole diameter and the burr in the simulation and experiment are investigated, and a relationship between the punch profile and the thickness of plate is examined. The results in FEM were well agreed with those in experiment. When a tensile stress around the corner of the dice attains at a certain value, the punch will hole the plate.
