Abstract

Public information management involves disaster risk and crisis communication adapted from business and government models. These actions require mitigation, preparation, response, and recovery with a team assembled to anticipate and address issues in the dynamic environment after a sudden onset disaster or an evolving slow-onset disaster. Historical examples are presented to demonstrate the theory in action. Credentialed media and the ubiquitous social media actors are to be accepted as partners to achieve the goals to reduce morbidity and mortality.
