Abstract

This paper focuses on the deformation of a thin circular plate, whose surface is loaded by a supersonic jet. It is well known that the self-excited oscillation of the supersonic jet occurs when the jet impinges on an object. If the object is a thin plate, then the plate is deformed by the jet impingement. In order to clarify the influence of self-excited oscillation on the deformation of the thin plate, the pressure, the temperature and the strain on the plate are experimentally measured at the different nozzle-plate spacings. Using the pressure and temperature in the experiment, the deformation of the plate is analyzed by the finite element method. The analytical results are compared with those by experiment.
