Abstract
237Np Mössbauer spectra for Np(VI)O2C2O4•3H2O being seven-coordinated and amorphous Np(VI)O2(OH)2•xH2O prepared by NaBrO3 oxidation are reported. The spectra for the oxalate at 10, 30 and 50 K show broad paramagnetic relaxation patterns. The spectrum of the hydroxide at 10 K shows a pure electric quadrupole splitting pattern. The structural information of the oxalate and the hydroxide has been obtained from these results. Linear correlation between the 237Np Mössbauer isomer shift (Δ) and the mean Np-O bond distance is consistent with seven-oxo-coordinated Np(VI) compounds.
