Abstract

The topic of study is multicriteria optimization of tubular trusses that are made of standard RHS or SHS steel sections. Structural hollow sections have several good mechanical properties and optimization makes it possible to choose profiles optimal way from the large commercial available selection of profiles. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is chosen as a solution algorithm which is a population based heuristic optimization method capable to solve various different problems. The example problem deals with the simultaneous cost and deflection minimization.
