Abstract

Here, we report the first 2.23 μm fiber gas laser based on the stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) of hydrogen filled in hollow-core photonic crystal fibers, to the best of our knowledge. The pump laser generated by the 1971 nm pulsed fiber amplifier is directly coupled into the hollow-core fiber (HCF) through the fusion splice between the solid-core singlemode fiber and the HCF. By adjusting the pressure of hydrogen, we obtained a maximum average power of ~56 mW at 2.23 μm when the pressure is 0.5 bar. This paper provides a novel method for compact, narrow line-width fiber laser beyond 2.2 μm.
