Abstract

Authors propose a cluster control type magnetrheological (MR) fluid damper. The damper consists of a sealed MR fluid tank and magnetic circuit. The MR fluid tank set between poles of the magnetic circuit. MR fluid clusters are formed by magnetic field applied by the magnetic circuit. When the MR fluid tank sliding, the MR fluids clusters still exist near the poles of the magnetic circuit. Carrier liquid through between the clusters provides viscous resistance to the motion. In this study, the cluster control MR fluid dumper using wedged magnetic poles and thin MR fluid (3vol%) shows capability of working as viscus damper.
