Abstract

PrefaceThe Chemnitz Seminar on Materials Engineering – Werkstofftechnisches Kolloquium – is a well-established scientific meeting that is hosted, this year already for the 21st time, by the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering (Institut für Werkstoffwissenschaft und Werkstofftechnik, IWW) of Chemnitz University of Technology.Scientists and engineers both from academia and industry attend this annual meeting to present and discuss most recent research results and current issues. The topics of the scientific sessions range from general challenges in materials engineering and testing to specific applications such as long-term stability of aluminium alloys for electrical connections. Further key topics are composite materials, surface engineering, joining technologies and additive manufacturing.Following the encouraging trend of the last years, most of our contributors have again decided to publish their work in this international, peer-reviewed journal. Consequently, this issue of IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering provides an excellent overview of the main topics of the Seminar.Chemnitz, March 2019Prof. Thomas LampkeProf. Guntram WagnerProf. Martin F.-X.
