Abstract

In this study, we determined micro-scale friction force on the nano-patterned surface of "nanostripe" that has micro/nano-scale grooves. The nanostripe surface had the cross section of multilayer film consisting of two kinds of metal materials. We rubbed the nanostripe surface composed of Ag-Cu with the cantilever having a convex lens as a scanning probe using an AFM (atomic force microscope). The results showed that Stribeck curves differed by roughness of the probe and friction direction. A periodic changes appeared in the friction force images measured only on the nanostripe, which showed that the friction force decreased on nano-grooves region.
