Abstract

AbstractReflective liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) microdisplays are widely used in various projection and near‐eye applications. There is a significant variation in the optical performance (mainly in the contrast ratio) as the F‐number of the system is reduced (i.e. the light collection angle increases). This paper provides experimental measurements of contrast ratio as a function of F‐number of the system. Both on‐axis and off‐axis designs are investigated. Various LCoS modes are compared for their contrast ratio performance.
