Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop maker education programs for home economics (HE) based on the 2015 revised national curriculum. It can be argued that HE is an ideal subject for implementing a maker education program as it embraces the three core elements of maker education, that is, making, makers, and makerspaces. However, there are a paucity of maker education programs which can consistently be provided for high school students. Thus, this study, adopting the TPMS model, developed HE maker education programs based on the six core concepts of the HE national curriculum. Especially, the program was developed following the ADDIE process. To be specific, in the stage of design, this study planned content, maker tools, and maker activities. The goal of the development phase was to present maker education programs for the respective core concepts. In the implementation phase, this study conducted a pilot testing with 24 students. Last, in the evaluation phase, a validation test with five teachers and interviews with 24 students was administered, to complete the models based on valuable feedback from the teachers and students. This study suggests that future research in this area examine the effect of various maker education programs, and finally, hopes that the outcomes of this study will contribute to the developing the HE maker education.
