Abstract

The objective of this study is to provide a quantitative analysis of changes in flow and attributes of floral patterns, fashion styles, and colors used in collections and trend-related images since 2010. In order to investigate the expression method of the floral pattern, frequency analysis was used on floral patterns of each year, the floral patterns expressed on the fabric, the fashion styles, and the colors. Floral pattern were analyzed from 306 images selected from a total of 2,168 images collected from the ‘fashion’ category of Vogue Korea’s website (www.vogue.co.kr) dating from 2010 to 2016. The research result showed that the year with the most images involving floral images was 2015(152 images). The months with the high number of images were September(56) and February(36). The most frequent mode of floral pattern printed on the fabric was at 76%, and the fashion style that used floral patterns the most frequently was on a dress at 52%. The dress being the most frequently applied floral fashion style can be attributed to its popularity during the spring and summer. Red was a popular accent color, and green and yellow colors were popular choices as primary and secondary colors. In terms of the color distribution, the accent and secondary colors with smaller areas came in a dark tone(dk) and a deep and deep tone(dp), but the accent colors with large areas included pale(pl) and a bright tone(b) in the spectrum of brighter colors. This study investigated the floral images portrayed in the change in fashion trend, and the result can be significant for future fashion trends.
