Abstract
This chapter reviews high-fidelity simulation, which has an enormous potential for training in today's safety-conscious environment. Emergency personnel use simulation training to various degrees to recreate situations they are likely to face during the delivery of their services. A human-mannequin simulator is similar in concept to a flight simulator. Both of them offer the ability to provide a venue for routine training and reenactment of the acute and rare problems. The medical profession is showing increased interest in simulation as an educational adjunct to the standard methods of teaching and training students—that is, lectures, reading, journal club, mock interviews, case presentations, and bedside/operating suite/clinic apprenticeship. A high-fidelity patient simulation, with a full-size computer-linked mannequin, offers a perfect venue for the presentation of the critical events that can be managed by the medical personnel without risk or harm to a patient.
