Abstract

The successful integration of the cloud, open data and citizen science provides the opportunity for some of the most exciting breakthroughs in science. However, Web 2.0 ideas and technologies have not been universally embraced by the scientific community. This be may be ascribed to a number of reasons: a reluctance to change a system that has served so well until now; scepticism about the promise of Science 2.0; and the lack of an appropriate environment. If the potential of Science 2.0 is to be achieved, then there needs to be a more concerted effort for change.
