Abstract
Carbon-based materials (CBMs) have demonstrated significant adaptability due to their ability to generate strong covalent bonds when chemically mixed with other carbon-based materials and a variety of other elements. As a result, they have exceptional properties such as high strength, density, and hardness. Their research, development, and invention are taking place in a number of disciplines, and studies utilizing the creation of carbon-based materials have yielded many favorable findings for a wide range of structures, allowing the production of multiple materials with varied uses. This chapter covers the synthesis, characterization, characteristics, and uses of CBMs, focusing on materials that have shown promise in various applications targeted at alleviating contemporary environmental and energy problems. According to recent studies, materials based on activated carbon graphene oxide and carbon nanotubes show highly favorable results for challenges that we are currently facing and that will become much more severe in the future if we do not prioritize the research and development of new technologies to minimize and even overcome current serious environmental impacts.
