Abstract

Nano-engineering is tiny solutions for big problems. It is multidisciplinary technological and scientific engineering field undergoing a rapid development. Recently, impact of nano-engineering in beverages industry is a sizzling topic. The application of nanotechnology in beverages systems will provide new methods to improve safety and the nutritional value of beverage products. Related applications of nanotechnologies include a possible reduction in the use of preservatives, salt, fat, and surfactants in products. On the other side, nano- engineered material helps in the development of new or improved tastes, textures, and mouth sensations. Nanoscale processing in beverages has been regarded as the hotbed of a new industrial revolution. This book chapter provides thorough insight on current advances of nano-engineering in beverage industry on its role, scope, and mechanism with required analytical processes including risk of assessment and also, its application needed to provide faster, greener, and more resilient products against a range of environmental and chemical changes. It will also discuss in detail about organic-inorganic nano additive, nanosensors for quality control and smart packaging including nanocoating, nanofilms, nanoscale freshness indicators, and nanoemulsions in beverages. It will also cover advances in nanotechnologies, such as microelectromechanical systems, and microfluidics, and will enable the realization of the potential of nanotechnology for beverages industry.
