Abstract

This chapter focuses on frequency distributions and graphs. It discusses a method for getting regular frequency distributions. Every score value in the first column is listed, with the highest score at the top. The frequency (symbolized by f) of each score is listed to the right of the score in the second column. The class intervals are listed in the first column and the frequencies in the second column. It is usually desirable to have a total of from 8 to 15 class intervals, use an interval size of 2, 3, 5, or a multiple of 5, selecting the smallest size that will satisfy the first rule, that is, all intervals should be the same size, and make the lowest score in each interval a multiple of the interval size. Grouped frequency distributions are not used if all scores can be quickly and conveniently reported, because grouped frequency distributions lose information. The chapter describes a method for cumulative frequency distributions and graphic representations.
