Abstract

Food residue and its waste is becoming one a hot topic in many industries, which contributes to the high waste disposal due to its short period of degradation. Food residues also have a big potential to be used as reinforcement, either in the form of fiber or filler. and bonded with recycled plastic to become a biocomposites. This chapter discusses the biofiller or biofiber extracted from food residue and its treatment and additive methods. It also looks at the environmental impact and its lifecycle analysis of the biocomposites. Most food residue products come from fruit, which has a high potential to be used effectively in several biodegradable polymer matrices for a wide range of applications. Fruit waste can be used to help growers earn money and through the composite, the producers save money by repurposing the byproduct.
