Abstract

The world of ceramics as well as their allied technologies are persistently evolving. With each new advancement adding to the knowledge bank, the quest for further improvement goes up. The desire for ever faster, more efficient, and less expensive production procedures continues today because of rapid growth, research, and analysis in the area of ceramic materials. This chapter provides an insight of the benefits, performance features, and recent developments in technical or advanced ceramics over the traditional ones. Technical ceramic materials stand out due to a unique set of properties such as high resistance to corrosion, erosion, and wear, electrical and thermal insulation at high temperatures, and high heat resistance. The special focus on alumina, zirconia, silicon carbide, and calcium phosphate has also been presented.
