Abstract

A 2.5 Gbit/s burst-mode receiver with power-level burst-detection and a time-critical control circuit is presented. With its unique topology, this receiver is successfully operated as a long-reach XG-PON1, where the quiet-window for ranging operation exceeds the time variation of the round-trip propagation delay for up to 40 km.
