Abstract
Primary care providers have assumed an increasingly important role in mental health care. They provide an expanding volume of outpatient mental health services, prescribe a growing number of psychotropic medications, and treat patients with a broad array of mental health conditions. These trends emphasize the importance of implementing effective models of collaboration between primary care providers and mental health specialists.
