Thisindex covers allitems - papers,correspondence, reviews, etc. - that appeared inthis periodical during 1974, anditems fromprioryears that were commented upon orcorrected in1974. Theindex isdivided into an AuthorIndex anda Subject Index, botharranged alphabetically. TheAuthor Index contains theprimary entryforeachitem; this entryislisted under the name ofthefirst author andincludes coauthor names, title, location of theitem, andnotice ofcorrections andcommentsifany.Cross-references are given fromeachcoauthor name tothename ofthecorresponding first author. Thelocation oftheitemisspecified bythejournal name (abbreviated),'year, month, inclusive pages,andmicrofiche code. [Themicrofiche code, givenin parentheses following theinclusive pages,consists offourcharacters tobe interpreted asfollows: thefirst character identifies themicrofiche numberwithin thesetoffiches fortheissue; thesecond character identifies therow inwhichthe first frame oftheparticular itemislocated; andthelast twocharacters designate theposition ofthat frame within therow.j TheSubject Indexcontains several entries foreachitem, eachconsisting ofa subject heading, modifying phrase(s), first author's name, andlocation ofthe item. Forinformation on coauthors, title, commentsandcorrections ifany,etc., it isnecessarytorefer totheAuthor Index. Somegeneric subject headings areused inthis index inaddition totheusualtechnical headings, e.g.,Books(books reviewed inthis periodical), Bibliographies (both papers that are bibliographies andany other papers whichcontain more than50references), Conferences (technical meetings a substanial numberofwhoseabstracts or papers have appeared inthis periodical), andSpecial Issues (issues ofthis periodical devoted primarily toa specific subject).
