Abstract

Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) is a major cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality. Evidence suggests that EPO mediates mechanisms directed towards optimizing oxygen delivery to tissues. EPO may be used as potential marker for central nervous system injury in premature neonates. The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that levels of cord blood EPO predict preterm infants at risk of developing IVH.
