Abstract

The concept of is a very important concept in studying Mao Zedongs thought and practice. Until recently, however, Mao Zedongs concept of “class” has been discussed only in terms of its connection with peasants, and we cannot deny the fact that there is no close examination of how Mao Zedongs concept of “class” was constructed and applied. The main purpose of this paper is to explore how Mao Zedongs concept of the 1920s was constructed and how it worked in a concrete process of practice. To this end, this paper examines Marxs theoretical review of the concept of and suggests that there is some gap between as an economic category and ‘class as a political category. It will be examined from the methodological point whether the problem consciousness is generated. I will trace the process and meaning of Maos “class” concept in the 1920s, using this consciousness as a point of contention.
