Abstract
Tribochemistry concerns chemical reactions among tribosystem the components, i.e., contact surfaces, lubricants, and environments, under boundary lubrication conditions and their wear processes. Tribochemical reactions lead to the most complex wear mechanisms; their precise natures are not well understood. With active agents in process fluids and the surrounding atmospheres, chemical processes belong to the chemical corrosion domain. This chapter discusses the tribological nature of mechanical, physical, and chemical processes in abrasive machining processes subjected to intense surface deformation, friction, and microcutting under abrasive contact.
