Abstract
This chapter describes various properties of the silk hydrogels used for tissue engineering and dual-drug delivery systems. Dual-drug release from a silk hydrogel containing silk nanoparticles was recently established. It was suggested that the release behaviors achieved by the dual-drug release system are regulated by physical properties, which is an important advantage for biomedical applications. Thus silk hydrogel has potential as a versatile and useful new platform of polymeric materials for various types of dual delivery of bioactive molecules in addition to tissue engineering. In this chapter, these studies of silk hydrogels for biomedical applications are summarized.
