Abstract

Upscaling of green materials for environmental applications has seen a greater upsurge in attainment of sustainable developed environment. Nanotechnological advancement has abridged the link of synthesizing green materials and its increasing application in specific areas of remediation processes like wastewater treatment, by utilizing techniques of advanced oxidation process, adsorption method, and ion-exchange technology. Quantification at primary source of various pollutants, dye stuff, and heavy metal ions as in effluents and wastewater are also important in controlling the contamination. Synthesizing green materials using various green approaches utilizing plant-based products, bacteria-, algae-, and fungi-based products will ultimately lessen the production of toxic byproducts and ultimately reduces the havoc and scarcity present in the environment. These green materials play pivotal role in many potential areas like wastewater remediation, heavy metal sensing, chemical and gas sensors, and very helpful in catalyzing reactions of harmful chemicals. This chapter intends to discuss different types of green materials based on their origin, synthesis, and their potential applications in environmental remediation for sustainable ecosystem.
